Ask yourself: How Long Could You Make It Without Your Paycheck? Disability insurance (DI), sometimes referred to as income protection which is exactly what it does. Disability insurance allows you to protect your ability to earn a living. If you become disabled, depending on your policy, you will receive help to pay for your living expenses including rent, food, medical expenses, and more. Anyone can become disabled. An unfortunate auto accident, weekend sports injury, or sudden illnesses can leave you unable to work. Currently, more than 1.5 billion people have left the U.S. workforce due to a disabling work condition, and many workers never return to work following disability.*
